Pretoria – North West police say they will continue to keep an eye on Marikana, near Rustenburg, following a successful raid over the weekend.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane of the North West Police told SAnews on Wednesday that during the raid, police confiscated weapons and arrested people linked to crimes committed in the area.

More than 10 people were arrested for the murder of two people accused of committing crime in the area, said Ngubane.

The two deceased were accused by angry community members of terrorising the local community. They were burnt to death.

Those arrested appeared in the Marikana Periodical Court on charges of arson and murder.

Ngubane said the killings were unrelated to issues transpiring at Lomin's Marikana mine.

Ngubane said since the raid was conducted, the area has been quite and no incidences of violence were reported.

“We will continue to maintain a strong presence in the area,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
