Pholosong Hospital to get a CEO soon

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Pretoria – Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo says the process of recruiting a CEO for Pholosong Hospital is well underway, and is expected to be completed by end of next month.

Papo, who visited the hospital this week, said hiring a CEO was crucial for the hospital to function fully.

“… At the end of next month, there should be a clear indication on who the CEO will be,” Papo said.

He said the department was also considering the motivation for hiring other staff members, most importantly specialist doctors and nurses. Depending on the availability of funds, those vacancies will also be filled speedily.

During his visit to Pholosong, Papo assured hospital management, board members as well as representatives from labour organisations, that the department would provide resources to enable the facility to fulfil its function as a regional hospital.

The hospital in KwaThema services about one million people. It was upgraded from a district to a regional hospital, but resources to enable it to operate on that level have not been provided, Papo said.

“In the last two years, the department has been overwhelmed with debt and that made it difficult for resources to be pumped into facilities … to provide quality healthcare.  This year, we are looking at challenges and coming up with solutions.

“Other areas that the hospital will be supported … are infrastructure improvement, provision of equipment, linen and medication,” said the MEC. – SAnews.gov.za
