Petrol price to increase by 49 cents

Pretoria - Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets next month as the price of petrol is set to increase by 49 cents a litre.

In a statement on Thursday, the Department of Energy said both grades of Petrol 93 and 95 (ULP and LRP) will rise by 49 cents, while the price of Diesel (0.05%) Sulphur will increase by 30 cents.

With the new prices set to come into operation on Wednesday, motorists in Gauteng who paid R13.30 for litre of 95 ULP in April will now pay R13.79 for a litre of 95 ULP.

The price of Diesel (0.005%) Sulphur will rise by 32 cents, while the cost of Illuminating Paraffin (Wholesale) will increase by 34 cents and that of Illuminating Paraffin (SMNRP) will increase by 46 cents.

The Maximum Retail Price for LPGAS will increase by 96 cents.

“The average international product prices of petrol, diesel and Illuminating Paraffin increased during the period under review,” said the Energy Department, adding that the Rand depreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review. - SAnews.gov.za
