Petrol price to drop by 2 cents

Pretoria - All grades of petrol are set to come down by 2 cents next week.

In Gauteng a litre of petrol will now cost R10.23, from the previous R10.25 a litre, while in the coast it will be R9.93 cents.

The price of diesel 0.05 percent sulphur will decrease by 38 cents a litre and diesel 0.005 percent sulphur will fall by 37 cents a litre, the Department of Energy said on Friday.

The prices will become effective next Wednesday.

The price of wholesale paraffin will fall by 32 cents and that of Illuminating Paraffin (SMNRP) will fall by 42 cents a litre.

The Maximum Retail Price for LPGAS will decrease by 10 cents per kilogram.

"During the period under review, the average international product prices of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin decreased. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 28 April 2011 to 26 May 2011 was 6.8516 compared to 6.7701 during the previous period," said the department.
