Friday, June 1, 2012

Pretoria - The petrol price is to come down by 55 cents a litre, the Energy Department said on Friday.

The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel and that of 0.005% sulphur diesel will decrease by 24.82 cents. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin is set to go down by 21 cents and a litre of illuminating paraffin is set to decrease by 28 cents.

There will also be a 99 cents per kilogram decrease in the maximum retail price for LPGAS.

The prices will come into effect next Wednesday.

A litre of petrol will now cost R11.67 while in the coast it will cost R11.32.

At a New Age breakfast briefing on Thursday, Minister of Energy Dipuo Peters said the price of petrol would "definitely be going down" to loud applause.

Economists had predicted a decrease in the petrol price because of lowered international crude oil prices.
