Parties invited to input on Lwandle evictions

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Pretoria - The Ministerial Enquiry on Nomzamo (Lwandle) evictions has invited all interested parties to assist in the formulation of recommendations.

The Enquiry was appointed by Minister of Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu to investigate the evictions at Lwandle, in Cape Town.

The Enquiry is mandated to investigate all the circumstances under which the evictions took place and the history of the evictions, including the facts leading to the application for and obtaining of the court order on 24 January by South African National Road Agency (SANRAL).

The Ministerial Enquiry explained that having gone through the scheduled process of the oral public hearings, it is now affording the last opportunity for different parties (individuals and/or organisations) to submit in writing relevant inputs.

“Upon receiving written submissions, the Enquiry may decide to invite parties for oral hearings at a date and venue to be announced in due course. In the interest of transparency and meaningful public participation the Enquiry will conduct all its hearings in public and everyone interested can attend. However, this will apply on the basis of the first come first serve due to space limitations,” the Ministerial Enquiry said.

The relevant parties which may be considered in the formulation of recommendations include Non-Government Organisations, Community Based Organisations, similar institutions, individual members of the public and political parties.
