Overheating grounds SA Airlink flight

Pretoria - SA Airlink has confirmed that its flight that departed to Antananarivo on Monday returned shortly after take-off due to engine trouble.

SA Airlink's Sales and Marketing Manager Karin Murray said hotel arrangements were made for passengers who were accommodated on the next available flight on Tuesday morning.

Murray said the engine trouble on the Avro RJ85 was due to the engine intake anti-icing system overheating.

"The cause might have been related to the intense weather systems and the expectation of encountering severe icing en-route to Antananarivo, and was in the interests of safety," she said.

Murray said the replacement aircraft encountered a flap problem while on the ground and due to the indefinite delay the flight was cancelled
