OR Tambo resumes operations

Pretoria - Operations are almost back to normal at OR Tambo International Airport after the runway was temporarily closed when a tyre burst and a wheel caught fire on a chartered MD82 flight, operated by Global Aviation, earlier this morning.

Airport Company South Africa (ACSA) communication and brand management manager, Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, said onsite reports indicated that one of the aircraft's tyres burst and a wheel caught fire, which resulted in the pilot aborting take-off.

The aircraft was carrying 120 passengers and seven crew members, who safely disembarked from the plane and were being kept in a secure location. - SAnews.gov.za
