Operations resume at train station after shooting

Pretoria - Metrorail services at the Pienaarspoort train station, between Mamelodi and Pretoria central, will continue as scheduled this morning following a shooting on a train last night.

"Operations will resume normally today, however, we are monitoring the situation very closely," Metrorail spokesperson Sibusiso Ngomane told BuaNews.

It is believed that a Metrorail security guard was shot and a commuter was injured on a train last night after a group of commuters became angry when a ticket official asked to see their train tickets.

"A group on the train became violent. It was during the skirmish that a shot was fired. One of the commuters wounded a security guard and injured a commuter on board," said Ngomane.

Ngomane said no arrests had been made in connection with the incident and both the security guard and the commuter are in hospital.
