Olievenhoutbosch land invasion condemned

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has condemned land invasion at Olievenhoutbosch in Tshwane calling on law enforcement agencies to take the necessary action against those who break the law.

Human Settlement’s Head of Department, Matilda Gasela, said that there has been many attempts by the department to work with the community of Olievenhoutbosch.

“The department is concerned that there are criminal elements within the community who continuously mislead the community. We call on law enforcement agencies to take strong action against them,” Gasela said.

In December, government subsidy houses were invaded in Olievenhoutbosch.

Gasela said that the department has obtained an interdict against further invasion of houses in the area, and was also in the process of evicting 71 people who invaded houses.

“It seems that there is a group that has concerted efforts to bring anarchy in the community of Olievenhoutbosch. We call on the community not to be misled by opportunists. Invasions delayed government development as resources that were going to be used for service delivery are used to remove the invaders,” Gasela said. – SAnews.gov.za
