NYDA welcomes DPME budget vote

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has welcomed the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation’s Budget Vote for the 2018/2019 financial year.

The budget vote, delivered by Minister in the Presidency Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma earlier this week, reiterated the fact that South Africa’s youth are the hardest hit by unemployment, poverty and inequality.

Of importance is that for youth development to be at the epicentre of government planning, the role of the NYDA is paramount.

Executive Chairperson of the NYDA, Sifiso Mtsweni, said: “We welcome the department’s confidence in the NYDA to discharge its mandate.

“The vote of confidence by the ANC-led government and various political parties at the budget vote suggests a commitment to look at the budget allocated to the NYDA moving forward.”

NYDA CEO Waseem Carrim said: “Through our NYDA-Goes-Rural Programme we are responding to the challenge of accessibility. The agency has introduced the use of outreach vehicles to serve as mobile offices.

“To date we have received six vehicles from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government as part of our partnership, ensuring that youth in the province benefit meaningfully from various interventions led by the NYDA.” – SAnews.gov.za
