Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Pretoria - The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Local Government and Traditional Affairs will on Thursday conduct public hearings on the Traditional Courts Bill.

The hearings will be held at Lehurutshe Civic Hall; Lebaleng Community Hall in Maquassi Hills; Moretele Municipality Hall and Tlou le Tlou Tribal Hall in Ganyesa. All hearings start at 10am.

“The bill seeks to affirm the values of the traditional justice system based on restorative justice and reconciliation, and to align them with the Constitution,” said North West Provincial Legislature’s Media and Communications Unit.

The bill, it said, also seeks to provide for the structure and functioning of traditional courts in line with constitutional imperatives and values; enhance customary law and the customs of communities observing a system of customary law, and provide for the matters connected therewith. – SAnews.gov.za
