Monday, March 3, 2014

Pretoria - North West Acting Premier Paul Sebegoe has called on communities to unite against the scourge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking by identifying and blowing the whistle on drug lords.

"We are encouraged by the arrest of 47 people for drug related crimes over the past week as part of the 776 people arrested for various crimes across the province," said Acting Premier Sebegoe on Monday.

Sebegoe stressed that the arrest of those involved in drugs and crime needs to be sustained and intensified towards building crime free communities and protecting youth against drugs, which rob them of their future.

According to police, 44 people were arrested for residential burglaries, 32 for shoplifting, 21 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 36 for possession of suspected stolen property in addition to those arrested for drug related offences.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed that goods seized during day-to-day operations include dagga and dagga plants, 5 firearms, 5 knives, 4 vehicles, 6 cellphones as well as various drugs and illegal cigarettes. – SAnews.gov.za
