NW Calabash festival boasts exciting line-up

Taung - The North West Cultural Calabash festival has a star-studded line-up this year that is expected to attract thousands of people.

Some of the artists who will be performing at the three-day festival, which will start on Friday, include well known South African artists like KB Motsilenyane, Ezbe Moiloa, De Makhotla, TUKS, Molemi, DJ Phat K and DJ Flava.

Some of the national artists, who will be performing, include the legendary Tshepo Tshola, DJ Sbu, DJ Cndo, Thembi Seete and the comedian ''The Egg Man'' popularly seen at the National Arts Festival.

Over 700 young artists from across the province will also compete in art activities like drama, gum-boot dancing, solo and group musical arts and traditional activities.

Other performances that can be expected include Latin American and Ballroom dances, drama, ballet, sport and visual arts, among others.

An outreach programme at the festival is expected to benefit 400 youngsters, who will get an opportunity to study Arts and Film at Wits University next year.

The above mentioned mouthwatering line up will be dished out to the public at no cost, as part of the reconstruction and development of the festival.

The North West Cultural Calabash is a multi-disciplined youth arts festival which is held annually in the area of Taung.

The main aim of the festival is to identify and develop talent among young people while also creating economic opportunities for the local rural communities.

The festival will be hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in partnership with the Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sport Foundation.
