Northern Cape public viewing areas named

Pretoria – The Northern Cape Provincial Government says it will broadcast the national memorial service for the late former President Nelson Mandela live to various viewing areas in all provincial districts.

Members of the public can go to Mayibuye Centre in Kimberley; the taxi rank in Springbok; Town Hall in De aar, the CBD in Upington and the community centre in Mothibistad to watch the live broadcast of the memorial service.

President Jacob Zuma announced that a memorial service will take place at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday to honour Madiba.

Members of the public can also visit the viewing areas on 15 December for the broadcast of the funeral. The funeral will take place in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape.

The provincial government will hold a provincial memorial service on 11 December at the Mieta Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley from 10am.

The provincial government said books of condolences have also been placed at the Office of the Premier, Provincial Legislature, the Kimberley City Hall and all Municipalities for members of the public to sign.

The public is also encouraged to lay wreaths at the City Hall in Kimberley as well town halls in the smaller towns.

“The Northern Cape Provincial Government joins with the rest of the country and the world in mourning the passing of our former state President Nelson Mandela,” said the provincial government.

Premier Sylvia Lucas on Sunday attended a prayer service at St Matthews Anglican Church in Upington following the President declaring Sunday a National Day of Prayer and Reflection. – SAnews.gov.za
