North West Premier-elect Mokgoro to be sworn in

Friday, June 22, 2018

North West Premier-elect Professor Job Mokgoro is expected to be sworn into office today.

The swearing in is expected to take place at the North West Provincial Legislature where the Speaker Sussana Dantjie will convene a special house sitting.

“The purpose is to fill the vacancy opened when former Premier Supra Mahumapelo resigned as Premier on the 23rd of May 2018,” said the provincial legislature ahead of Friday’s swearing-in.

On Wednesday, the ANC National Working Committee (NWC) held a special session to conclude the nomination of a candidate for Premier of the province.

The ruling party’s NWC unanimously resolved on the nomination of Professor Mokgoro as the Premier-elect.

In a statement on Thursday, the ruling party said Mokgoro is a tried and tested administrator fit enough to deal with the challenges at hand including creating stability within the provincial administration and effecting the much needed delivery of basic services.

Professor Mokgoro is currently responsible for the School of Governance in the North West Provincial Administration.

He holds administrative and academic accolades including a Masters and Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Toledo in the United States.

In April 1994, Professor Mokgoro became the first Director General of the North West administration tasked with rationalising and integrating three government administrations into one North West province.

Following his swearing-in, Makgoro is due to address the media at a meet-and-greet session that will be held at the Conference Room at the provincial legislature in Mahikeng.
