No cause for alarm in odd water colour

Pretoria - Tshwane’s Water and Sanitation Division has observed that water supplied to Region 7 from the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works has assumed an unusual colour which is the result of the recent torrential rains.

The City of Tshwane said following tests aimed at the water plant to determine reliability of water provided, it was decided that the water is safe.

“However, customers need not worry as our technicians are working on a treatment to speedily eliminate the undesirable colour.

“There is no indication of micro-failures found in the final water, except the impurities due to a very high volume of the incoming raw water,” the City said in a statement on Thursday.

Chlorine levels are also within South African National Standard 241 specifications and there is enough disinfection in the network.

The affected areas receiving water from the plant are Bronkhortstspruit, Rethabiseng, Zithobeni, Ekangala, Ekandustria and Thembisile Hani Local Municipality. – SAnews.gov.za
