Nkoana-Mashabane arrives in Egypt ahead of ministerial meeting

Pretoria - International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has arrived in Egypt ahead of the two-day XV NAM Ministerial Meeting scheduled to take place at Sharm El Sheikh from Monday.

According to the department, South Africa participates in the NAM Summit within the context of the South-South Co-operation.

Minister Nkoana-Mashabane is expected to participate in the NAM Ministerial meeting as well as the NAM Committee on Palestine.

"The Ministerial Meeting will consider the recommendations regarding the preparations for the Summit which will focus on the election of the bureau and the consideration and adoption of the Outcome Documents," the department said.

The XV NAM Ministerial Meeting preceding the summit will convene under the theme "International Solidarity for Peace and Development".

The meeting is expected to focus on international solidarity for peace and development as well as the international financial crisis and its impact on the Members of the Movement and means to deal with the financial crisis.

As a build up to the XV NAM Summit; a Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Coordinating Bureau was held in Havana, Cuba, in April.
