Pretoria - The Department of Health has extended the period for submissions on the National Health Insurance (NHI) policy document to end of December.
The Green Paper, which was released in August by Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, stated that comments must be submitted within a period of two months from the date of publication of the notice.
Director-General of the Department of Health, Precious Matsoso, said on Wednesday that requests had been made to have the comment period extended up to 30 December 2011.
The broad objective of the NHI is to put in place the necessary funding and health service delivery mechanisms, which will enable the creation of an efficient, equitable and sustainable health system in South Africa based on the principles of the right to health, social solidarity and universal coverage. - BuaNews
