New voting stations erected in Mandlazini, Bekkersdal

Pretoria – The Independent Electoral Commission’s provincial electoral officer in KwaZulu-Natal, Mawethu Mosery, says the IEC has set up a temporary voting station in Mandlazini near Richards Bay.

This follows the burning of the existing voting station during a service delivery protest on Tuesday night.

According to police, 17 000 police officers have been be deployed in KwaZulu-Natal, while additional police from the national office, were due to arrive in the province on Tuesday.

Last night three IEC tents in Bekkersdal were burnt down by residents, however, IEC officials have started erecting new voting stations and community members have started to form queues ready to cast their votes. –
