Pretoria - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi will this morning officially unveil the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) new multi-purpose studio which will broadcast in full high definition (HD).
The studio will service both the SABC’s sport and news desks using the latest technology.
For the first time, the SABC will be able to use augmented reality in its broadcast and key productions by sport and news will be done in digital HD.
Touch screens will enable match analysis for sporting events and the look and feel of the set will be enhanced with specialised lighting. Extensive video walls for graphics and feeds have also been integrated into the set.
The studio and set will be utilised for the first time for the Rugby World Cup 2015, which kicks off on Friday, as well as key events such as the Local Municipal Elections and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Hlaudi Motsoeneng, SABC’s Chief Operations Officer said this was a major milestone for the public broadcaster as it prepares for the migration from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting, under government’s digital migration programme.
“It is only befitting that at this stage in our lives, with the kind of technology we have as a public broadcaster that is on the move, we construct a versatile and stylish studio packed with the latest functions to take broadcasting to another level.”
Motsoeneng added that they are delighted that the inauguration of the facility is through one of the world’s biggest event - the Rugby World Cup 2015.
“We promise our audiences an unforgettable experience in this studio as we move with the times and work towards affirming the SABC as one of the world’s biggest broadcasters in terms of content and technology,” he said. - SAnews.gov.za
