Pretoria - Nombulelo Moholi is to head up telecommunications company Telkom as its new Group Chief Executive Officer.

Moholi, who is currently the managing director of Telkom SA, will take over in her new position as of 1 April 2011.

Telkom chairman Lazarus Zim welcomed Moholi to her new position. "In Ms Moholi we have the depth of experience, visionary leadership, strategic expertise and knowledge of technology needed to steer Telkom into the future," Zim said on Thursday.

She will succeed the current acting group chief executive Jeffrey Hedberg whose contract expires at the end of March. Hedberg will stay on in an advisory capacity until June.

Zim added that Moholi's appointment meant the group was now on a firm footing to fulfill its mandate to stakeholders and shareholders.

Moholi holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Cape Town and has attended the Strategic Executive Programme at Stanford Business School and the Strategic Marketing Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

Moholi said: "Although we are experiencing unprecedented competition on several levels in the ICT sector, I am confident that the Telkom Group has the skills and resources necessary to tackle and resolve these challenges, and to take us proudly into the future."
