New Garsfontein interchange completed

Pretoria - Motorists and residents in Pretoria East will be pleased that construction on the Garsfontein Road Interchange has been completed giving them direct access to the N1 highway.

The Garsfontein road interchange will be operational from 11am on Saturday providing direct access from the N1 north onto Garsfontein road onto the N1 South.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) said this would make it easier for motorists not to have to make a detour via other roads to get to the N1 South.

"The new interchange will provide direct access from the N1 North onto Garsfontein Road and from Garsfontein Road onto the N1 South. This new interchange will provide direct access onto and from the N1," said Sanral.

The section of Garsfontein Road over the N1 has also been upgraded from a single carriageway road into a dual carriageway road.

Sanral said that motorists should, however, note that there will be closures on the N1 at the Atterbury Road interchange between 6am and 3pm.

This will allow for the placing of the inner beams of one of the new Atterbury Road bridges.

"This will require the closure of the fast lanes on both the north and southbound carriageways of the N1 under the Atterbury Road bridges. The lane closures will impact on the traffic using the N1, as well as the northbound on ramp loop towards Polokwane," said Sanral.

The agency urged motorists to use the Garsfontein interchange to access the N1 South.-
