New fuel provider for Wonderboom Airport

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Pretoria - A new service provider has been appointed to supply Avgas fuel at the Wonderboom Airport and the company is expected to deliver fuel later today.

Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson, Console Tleane, told BuaNews that the new service provider, EML Construction and Engineering, was expected to deliver fuel to the airport today. "We contacted the company yesterday and they told us their trucks were loading and promised that fuel will be delivered today."

This comes after the current service provider Energy for Africa failed to supply fuel to the airport for four days, leaving aircrafts stranded at the airport and aviation companies losing revenue.

Tleane, however, refuted media reports that they had cancelled their contract with their previous service provider, saying they were still considering their options. "We are still considering all options. No final decision has been taken as yet," he said.

Avgas is used by piston engine aircrafts. Turbine and jet engine aircrafts use jet fuel which is still in good supply and therefore aircrafts using jet fuel not affected. - BuaNews
