New CEO for BUSA

Pretoria - Nomaxabiso Majokweni has been named the new Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) chief executive officer.

"She was appointed today following a special council meeting," BUSA spokesperson Lesego Lehihi said on Thursday.

Majokweni, 42, has held senior positions in both the private and public sectors over the past 20 years.

She holds a B.Com (Hons) in Economics and was recruited by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) in 1996 to become part of the first corps of post-liberation economic representatives. This group was sent abroad to position and market South Africa as a viable and competitive investment location and a source of high quality value added exports.

She has also worked in Hong Kong as South African Commercial Attach,, also responsible for Southern China. In 2000, she was promoted to a Regional Director responsible for United States, Canada and Mexico based in Washington DC.

She returned to South Africa in 2001 where she was appointed chief operating officer at Blue IQ, the special purpose economic development agency. She held this position until 2003.

She was then appointed CEO of Sandton Convention Centre, a privately owned international convention centre. She has undergone executive education training at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, and IMD in Switzerland.

Majokweni will take over the post at BUSA from her current position at her own consultancy L'Avant Group on 1 September following the resignation of Jerry Vilakazi in May.
Deputy CEO of BUSA, Raymond Parsons, has been acting CEO as of 1 June 2011.
