Pretoria - Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has welcomed the R44 000 fine imposed on a Gauteng accountant for speeding.

Brian Ely, 32, was fined by the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after he was arrested for travelling at 206km/h in a 120km/h zone.

Ely was travelling on his Kawasaki super bike on the N14 between Muldersdrift and Zwartkops at the time.

He was sentenced to a fine of R44 000 or 90 days imprisonment - half of which was suspended for three years.

"We welcome the R44 000 fine imposed by the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on a motorcyclist who was arrested for travelling at 206km/h in Gauteng today. We want to repeat our warning that absolutely no mercy will be shown to any road user who disobeys rules of the road, particularly as we head towards the December holidays," Ndebele said.
