The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will this morning begin its four-day programme of Taking Parliament to the People in Gauteng.
Chairperson of the NCOP Thandi Modise, Gauteng Premier David Makhura, Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Mtombi Mekgwe, President of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Parks Tau and Mayor of Ekurhuleni Metro Mzwandile Masina, are expected to address the opening ceremony.
The ceremony will get underway at the Alberton Civic Centre.
The four-day programme is held under the theme: “Impact of migration - Deepening cooperative governance for accelerated service delivery and development”.
Permanent delegates of the NCOP will hold public hearings and conduct oversight as part of the program.
The multidisciplinary delegation will hold the said public hearings at the Alberton Civic Centre and conduct site visits in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Johannesburg Metro, Tshwane Metro, and the West Rand District Municipality.
“The public hearings present an opportunity for members of the public to draw the executive’s attention to service delivery challenges they experience in matters related to the theme,” said Parliament.
The program will culminate with the address to a formal Sitting of the NCOP by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday. - SAnews.gov.za
