NCOP to assess service delivery measures

Pretoria - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will embark on its Provincial Week where it will interact with all the nine provinces to assess service delivery measures.

The NCOP, which comprises of 90 delegates 54 of whom are permanent delegates (six from each of the nine provinces), kicks off its assessment in the Free State where it will conduct site visits to the Thabo Mofutsanyana district on Tuesday.

In Gauteng, members of the NCOP will be briefed by the premier and MECs on provincial programmes and plans on Tuesday while on Thursday the committee will conduct site visits to the Sedibeng - Lesedi Municipality and Ekurhuleni metro.

On Thursday, in KwaZulu-Natal's Sisonke district, the NCOP will hold public hearings under the theme "Working together to ensure faster improvement in the delivery of services and the living".

In Limpopo, the committee will visit the Lephalale Agriculture Corridor where it will meet and interact with local traditional leaders and other stakeholders. They will also visit the Witpoort Hospital to assess service delivery.

In Mpumalanga, there will be a joint site visit of the NCOP and Portfolio Committee on Human Settlement; Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to the Bushbuckridge municipality.

In the Northern Cape, the NCOP will hold meetings with mining companies, Pretoria Portland Cement and Kumba Resources.

The Kuruman Hospital in the North West will be one of the stops made by the NCOP while they are in the province on Thursday.

In the Western Cape, the Standing Committee of Public Accounts will hold a meeting with the Swellendam Municipality on Thursday.
