Pretoria - The National Imbizo Focus Week, which will see government getting in touch with communities, officially kicks off today.
The week will see several Cabinet Ministers and their deputies visiting communities, strategic projects and hosting stakeholder dialogues. The week’s events will be observed under the theme ‘Together we move South Africa forward’. The programme will conclude on Sunday.
Imbizo Focus Week gives political principals an opportunity to spread messages around the priorities and programmes of government as outlined in the State of the Nation Address and cluster media briefings within the context of the country’s National Development Plan.
Communities also get an opportunity to raise issues that affect them.
The official launch of the week will take place in Mahikeng in the North West.
Transport Minister Dipuo Peters will today visit a number of projects undertaken by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) as well as unannounced visits to licence testing centres.
The Minister will assess progress on key projects. It’s also an opportunity for her to talk directly with the public.
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana, will on Wednesday visit Westcol TVET College to interact with students on various issues such as funding and opportunities offered by government.
Government has urged communities to attend the izimbizo that will take place in their respective communities and participate in the dialogues.
Cabinet introduced the Imbizo Focus Week Programme in 2000 to facilitate direct, unmediated and interactive communication between government and the public, as well as various key stakeholders. – SAnews.gov.za
