N West government intervenes in Khunotswana

Thursday, June 5, 2014

Pretoria – The North West provincial government top brass will today meet with the community of Khunotswana following numerous service delivery protests in the area since April.

Khunotswana, near Zeerust in Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, was the scene of unrest, which saw the community setting alight the traditional council offices and a house belonging to ward councillor Boitumelo Sikwa. The protests resulted in children not going to school.

The team, which was announced by Premier Supra Mahumapelo last week, comprises the MECs of Local Government and Human Settlements, Collen Maine, Education and Sport Development, Mmaphefo Matsemela and Public Works and Roads, Madoda Sambatha.

Concerns raised by the community include the poor condition of roads, insufficient water supply, lack of housing and electricity supply.

Today’s meeting will take place at Khunotswana sports ground at 1pm. – SAnews.gov.za
