Kimberly – A moment of silent was observed in prayer for the total recovery of the Northern Cape Premier Hazel Jenkins, who fell ill last year while delivering the State of the Province Address.

Jenkins, who suffered a mild stroke, is recovering at home and it is not known when she will resume her official duties as the premier of the province.

Grizelda Cjiekella, who is the province’s Acting Premier, described Jenkins as a joyful and inspiring person during the State of the Province Address held in Kimberly today.

“We are greatly inspired by her positive attitude, magnanimous personality and exceptional work ethic,” Cjiekella said.

She said Jenkins was a source of inspiration to many, including ordinary citizens.

“You bring out the very best in every single one of us. We now take this opportunity to salute you for your sterling role.”

According to Bronwyn Thomas from the Office of the Premier, Jenkins is recovering very well at home. “We do not know yet when she is coming back to work.” - SAnews.gov.za
