Mbombela - Mpumalanga learners who registered to write their matric supplementary exams have been advised to collect their admission letters and timetables from their respective schools tomorrow.

Provincial education spokesperson Jasper Zwane said 7 871 pupils from 509 schools have registered so far for the supplementary exams, which will run from February 17 to March 25.

“The examination centres have been clustered within circuits and information about the location of centres is available in all schools, so we expect all those registered to go to their respective schools to collect their timetables on Friday,” said Zwane.

He said the supplementary exams give the pupils a chance to improve their 2013 matric results.

Zwane said candidates who qualified to write supplementary exams include those who did not meet the minimum promotion and certification requirements, but require a maximum of two subjects to obtain the National Senior Certificate.

They also include those who were physically unfit to write their exams and those who are repeating one subject to obtain a National Senior Certificate.

"If there was a death in the immediate family of a candidate, or other special reasons for the candidate’s absence, he or she may register for the supplementary examination," Zwane said.

Candidates who only need to write one subject to meet the requirements for admission for a higher education certificate, diploma or bachelor's degree programme also qualify to re-write that subject.

“Another exception is when a candidate provides documentary evidence that he or she qualifies for admission to a higher education institution or for an occupation, but does not satisfy the higher education faculty requirements or the requirements for the specific occupation.

"For this purpose, the end-of-year and the supplementary examinations will be regarded as one examination sitting,” added Zwane.

He said candidates who did not write or complete the end-of year examination with a valid reason have an opportunity to write the supplementary examination for the specific examination question paper that they did not write in the end-of-year-examination. – SAnews.gov.za
