Pretoria – Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has handed over houses to two families in Stenford village near Hazyview.

The Premier visited the families on Friday as part of his initiative, Kancane Kancane Premier’s Legacy Project, which reaches out to individuals who have not been able to receive RDP houses from government.

“In as much as I am here to hand over the two houses to these families, it is clear that all the homes in this village do not have houses. I want my office to work with Mbombela Municipality and ensure that something is done speedily,” Premier Mabuza said.

The houses, which cost more than R300 000, were sponsored by Moedi Chattered Accountants.

The beneficiaries of the houses included an unemployed 56-year-old woman and single mother of nine children, Julia Mabuza, who survives on social grants.

Another beneficiary was a 37-year-old woman and her 17-year old daughter, who dropped out of school in grade four. The mother and daughter both have small babies.

The Premier urged the 17-year-old girl to go back to school to get education to improve her future prospects.

He called on the provincial government to build houses for the residents of Stenford village.

“As I was driving around, I could see that almost every household does not have a house. We must do something urgently,” Premier Mabuza said. – SAnews.gov.za
