Mpumalanga beneficiaries invited to change old SASSA cards

Thursday, June 14, 2018

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga is inviting social grant beneficiaries to change their existing SASSA cards for the new gold cards.

“The existing SASSA card will no longer be supported and used after 30 September 2018. This invitation does not apply to those who receive their social grants through their private bank accounts,” SASSA Mpumalanga spokesperson, Senzeni Ngubeni said.

Ngubeni encouraged beneficiaries who are unable to manage a PIN-enabled card to appoint procurators (receiving money/payment on behalf of a beneficiary) to assist them with transacting in the electronic environment.

The appointment of procurators can be done at any SASSA Local Office.

The new SASSA card has been available from May 2018.

To change their cards, beneficiaries are encouraged to visit their nearest SASSA offices or the South African Post Office (SAPO).

“SASSA will also communicate other areas where beneficiaries can also change their existing cards to the new SASSA card. Beneficiaries are encouraged to bring along their Identity Documents (ID) and their old SASSA cards for the card swap,” Ngubeni said.

Beneficiaries have a choice to receive their grants through the South African Post Office, their personal bank accounts, use PINs at various merchants (supermarkets or retailers) and ATMs.
