Pretoria - Former acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Mokotedi Mpshe has been appointed acting Judge of the North-West High Court in Mafikeng.

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Jeff Radebe appointed Mpshe in terms of Section 175(2) of the Constitution. His appointment to the court is effective from 1 February to 31 July 2010.

Minister Radebe following consultation with Acting Judge President Monica Leeuw, decided to appoint Mpshe in order to enhance capacity in the judiciary to attend to case backlogs in that region.

"We trust that advocate Mpshe will find his acting appointment as an opportunity to grow in his career and will continue to serve his country albeit in a different capacity for the duration of his appointment," said the Justice Ministry in a statement.
