Pretoria - Thousands of mourners are busy flowing into the FNB stadium to honour and pay their respects to former late President Nelson Mandela.
While the rain continues to fall down on FNB stadium, the spirit of mourners, who began entering the stadium when the gates opened at six, continues to be one of celebration as they sing freedom songs and dance. Rain is seen as being a blessing in several African cultures.
Ordinary South Africans will take their place along at least 91 Heads of State expected from all over the world in an unprecedented and rare moment which will see as many leaders gathered in one place at the same time.
The Memorial Service is expected to start at 11:00 with the singing of the South African National Anthem.
Thereafter, there will be Welcome and Opening Remarks followed by various tributes.
High on the list to render a tribute will be US President Barack Obama.
Air Force One has just landed on South African shores, carrying four US Presidents. President Obama is being accompanied by former US President George W. Bush, his wife Laura Bush, as well as former US President Bill Clinton, along with his wife, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Jimmy Carter and his wife.
Other leaders who are on the programme to pay a tribute to the elder statesman at the historic Memorial Service include UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Cuban President Raul Casstro Ruz and Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
Madiba’s grandchildren will also render tributes to their grandfather.
