Mbombela - Motorists travelling between Mpumalanga's capital city and Gauteng through the N4 can expect to reach their destinations in time, following the completion of the Schoemanskloof Rehabilitation Project.
Trans African Concessions (TRAC) spokeswoman Solange Soares-Nicholson said the conclusion of the project has resulted in the termination of all major road works and the discontinuation of the stop and go’s that were operational since 2012.
“Because TRAC is committed to keeping the Maputo Corridor (between Pretoria, in Gauteng, and the Port of Maputo, in Mozambique) in pristine condition, extensive road improvement projects are often undertaken," said Soares-Nicholson.
"The Schoemanskloof Rehabilitation Project was one such initiative that saw the surface of the road between the Lydenburg (R36) turnoff and Montrose upgraded over 16 months.”
Soares-Nicholson said TRAC was grateful for the patience, understanding and consideration motorists throughout the project.
“N4 users are urged to note that major road works are still in progress at the Gorge, between Nelspruit and Malalane, with the stop and go on that section of the N4 still operational.
“Road rehabilitation has also commenced in Mozambique with a stop and go now effective between Moamba and Matola,” she added.
She also appealed to all users of the N4 to remain patient and considerate during this construction process and to abide by all regulations for the sake of their safety and the safety of others.
“We appreciate the inconvenience and frustration that long delays may cause to motorists, but we guarantee that the end product will be worth it,” she said.
One of the N4 road users, Donald Sibuyi, said he was happy that the road was finally completed.
"It was frustrating when we had to wait for so many hours because we become impatient sometimes. The road is now smooth and safe to use,” said Sibuyi. – SAnews.gov.za
