Motlanthe wraps up Nordic visits

Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark yesterday to commence the last leg of his working visit to the Nordic countries.

The visit aims at further consolidating and enhancing political and economic relations between South Africa and the Nordic countries.

Motlanthe kicked off his official visit to the Nordic countries on Wednesday in Stockholm, Sweden.
Motlanthe is expected to meet with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark Ms HelleThorning-Schmidt to discuss issues of common interest and reinforce the partnership between South Africa and Denmark.

The two will also exchange ideas on the forthcoming 17th UN Conference of Parties (COP17) due to take place in Durban in November 2011.

Motlanthe's visits takes place within the framework of the Declaration of Intent relating to partnerships in Africa that was signed between South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in 2008.

During the visits the Deputy President was accompanied by the Minister of Energy Dipuo Peters; Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Marius Fransman; Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize and the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Thandie Tobias-Pokolo.

Deputy President Motlanthe is expected to return to South Africa tomorrow.
