Motlanthe arrives at Presidential Guesthouse for SADC Summit

Pretoria - South African President and Chairperson of SADC, President Kgalema Motlanthe, has arrived at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria for the SADC Summit on Zimbabwe.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the summit has been convened primarily to discuss the implementation of the Zimbabwean Global Political Agreement, signed in 2008 between ZANU-PF and the two MDC formations and facilitated by former President Thabo Mbeki as the SADC Facilitator on the Zimbabwean dialogue.

"The convening of the Monday Summit follows a decision of the meeting held in Harare, Zimbabwe on Monday, 19 January attended by President Motlanthe, President Armando Guebuza as Deputy Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, the SADC Facilitator Mr Mbeki, with President Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangarai and Arthur Mutambara," the department said.

Monday's Summit is being attended by Mr Mbeki as well as leaders of the two MDC formations.

Zimbabwe is being represented at summit level by President Mugabe.
