Motlanthe to address APAC conference

Cape Town - Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe is to deliver a keynote address at the 11th annual conference of the Association of Public Accounts Committees (APAC) later today.

The conference, which takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27 to 30 September, will bring together members of public accounts committees in Parliament, the nine provinces and peers in related sectors.

Minister in the Presidency: National Planning Commission Trevor Manuel, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sicelo Shiceka are also expected to attend the conference.

There will also be foreign delegates from Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states, Australia and Canada.

Delegates will share ideas on how to effectively manage public funds. Discussions are also expected to centre on measures to improve public sector governance, ensuring successful oversight through effective follow up by Public Accounts Committees.

They will also debate the need for Public Accounts Committees at municipalities.
