More than 100 injured in train collision

More than 100 people were injured on Tuesday in a collision between two passenger trains in Booysens, south of Johannesburg.

“I can confirm that there was a train collision right outside Booysens station with 112 injuries. Commuters have been taken to various hospitals around the area,” Metrorail Spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng told the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Mofokeng said seven passengers had sustained serious injuries. There were no fatalities in this accident.

“We wish them a speedy recovery and we are operating buses in this particular area,” she told the broadcaster. – SAnews.gov.za
