Molewa to be remembered during memorial service

The late Environmental Affairs Minister, Edna Molewa, will be remembered today at the official memorial service at the Tshwane Events Centre, in Pretoria.

The service, which is opened to the public, starts at 10:00 at Hall J.

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor, is set to deliver the keynote address on behalf of government.

There will also be tributes from family, friends and representatives from the environment sector, the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on State Funerals said on Tuesday.

The IMC met on Tuesday to deliberate on arrangements for the memorial, funeral service and burial, which they indicated are at an advanced stage.

The Official Funeral Service, which is opened to the public, will be held on Saturday, 6 October 2018, from 8am at Tshwane Events Centre Hall J and proceed to Zandfontein Cemetery in Pretoria West.

The following routes and intersections will be affected on the day of the memorial and funeral services:   

Wednesday: 

  • WF Nkomo street / Hezekia Mphahle street
  • WF Nkomo street / Maltzan street
  • Christoffel street / President Burger street
  • Christoffel street / Luttig street
  • Christoffel street / Retief street 

On Friday the following routes will be affected: 

  • Visagie street
  • Bosman street
  • Nana Sita street
  • Sophie de Bruyn
     

As well as Saturday:

WF Nkomo street / Hezekia Mphahle street

WF Nkomo street / Maltzan street

Christoffel street / President Burger street

Christoffel street / Luttig street

Christoffel street / Retief street

Mourners can send their messages of condolence and support to the family and friends by making use of condolence books available at the following places:

  • The Molewa family residence;
  • The Union Buildings;
  • Department of Environmental Affairs Offices in Pretoria and Cape Town;
  • Premiers’ office in all provinces;
  • Sefako Makgatho University;
  • Vaal University of Technology;
  • South African National Parks;
  • South African National Biodiversity Institute; and
  • South African Weather Service.
