North West Premier, Professor Job Mokgoro, has appealed to provincial senior managers to become agents of change in their communities.
“Our society is terribly bruised. The most vulnerable continue to suffer and the system of governance is bad, especially at local municipality level. It is high time you commit to become women and men whom the North West province’s 3.8 million communities can celebrate,” said Mokgoro on Tuesday.
The Premier held an engagement session with senior managers from all the provincial departments, municipal managers and chief executive officers of State-owned entities, among others.
He urged managers to take charge of the provincial government’s service delivery programme by stepping up their efforts and commitment, and making sure that everything the provincial government has promised its citizenry becomes reality.
The Deputy Director-General for Service Delivery from the Department of Public Service and Administration, Willie Vukela, urged the senior managers to view the placement of the North West Provincial Government under Section 100 (1) (a) and (b) of the Constitution as an opportunity to do things better.
“As we work together towards realising the National Development Plan goal on professionalisation of the State, we need to go back to basics and become real servants,” said Vukela.
He highlighted the significance of putting effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms in place to ensure that all service delivery gaps are closed.
Senior managers were also afforded the opportunity to reflect on areas affecting service delivery in the province. In turn, they committed to ensuring that the issues raised by the Premier receive the necessary attention.
