Mmabatho College of Nursing to reopen

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Pretoria – Academic activities at Mmabatho College of Nursing are expected to resume next week, following the reopening of the college by the North West Health Department.

Early this month, the department took a decision to close the college, following a month-long boycott of clinical practicals and learning activities.

The boycott started on 8 May, when students refused to be transported to their clinical facilities, citing late arrival to clinical facilities due to transport constraints and congestion of learners at facilities.

The department announced on Tuesday that academic activities at the college will resume on Monday and urged students who had vacated the premises of the college, following the closure to return to the college.

“The academic program will continue as normal with students going back to class, sitting for mid-year examinations and attending to their clinical areas.

“The examinations for Group June 2011 will commence on 24 June at 9am. Examinations for other category of students are deferred to a future date to be communicated to students,” the department said.

The department also added that it has increased security at the college to protect property and students, who stayed away from the academic activities due to intimidation. – SAnews.gov.za
