Ministry of Higher Education shocked by TUT murder

Pretoria - The Higher Education and Training Ministry is shocked by the passing of Sinakhokonke Buyani Masuku, who was a first year student at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Soshanguve Campus.

According to media reports, Masuku was killed at a women's residence on Saturday night. It is reported that he and another student -- who is being treated for critical injuries at the George Mukhari Hospital -- stabbed each other during a fight.

Masuku was studying towards a Diploma in Language Practise at TUT.  

“The Ministry wishes for a speedy recovery to those students who are critically injured and are in hospital during the brawl at Soshanguve Campus. The Department commends the police for their swift arrest of the perpetrators,” said the Ministry.

According to reports, the police have arrested three TUT students following the death, and they were charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The suspects are expected to appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - SAnews.gov.za
