Pretoria - Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini will this morning visit two victims of a cash-in-transit heist which occurred last week at the Soshanguve mall.
Eleven people, nine of whom were older persons, were in a shootout between a gang of robbers and security personnel during the cash heist.
Police believe the group of suspects confronted Fidelity Security Services guards who were transporting money to a pension point.
The suspects fired shots randomly and managed to take a box with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Minister Dlamini will use this opportunity to pronounce a safety plan for Gauteng Province pay points which should be in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS),” spokesperson Lumka Oliphant said.
Minister Dlamini will visit an 85-year-old who was shot in the leg and has since been discharged, as well as a 28-year-old man living with disability who was also shot in the back and is still receiving medical attention at George Mukhari Hospital. – SAnews.gov.za
