Pretoria – Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha says he will ensure that his department gets an unqualified audit report.

Minister Masutha is scheduled to meet with the Auditor General before the end of this month to see what can be done to achieve this.

Presenting his department’s Budget Vote in Parliament today, the minister said a number of interventions were implemented, including the deployment of all senior managers in the department to verify the existence, completeness and state of assets.

Minister Masutha said the intervention will have a positive impact on the audit outcomes of 2013/14.

“I am committed to ensure, through continuous improvement on compliance with various prescripts and good governance principles, that the department achieves an unqualified audit opinion,” he said.

Up to 2012/13, the Department of Correctional Services has been receiving a qualified audit opinion on movable, tangible capital assets.

The department has been allocated a budget of R19.7 billion, projected to increase over the medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) to R20.7 billion in 2015/16 and to reach R22.08 billion in 2016/17 at an average growth of 5.65. – SAnews.gov.za
