Pretoria – Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi will on Sunday launch the Annual Thusong Service Centre Week at the Dududu Thusong Service Centre, in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Minister will be accompanied by Vulamehlo Local Municipality Mayor Thabani Dube and Ugu District Municipality Mayor Ntombifikile Gumede, as she conducts a walkabout of the Dududu Thusong Service Centre and interacts with service beneficiaries.
The campaign, which will take place from Monday to Friday, is a week of heightened communication on the achievements of the Thusong Service Programme and forms part of Public Service Month.
“The week is aimed at highlighting government services offered at Thusong Service Centres countrywide. These centres are vehicles government uses to ensure that services reach peri-urban as well as rural communities,” said the department.
Thusong Service Centres are located across the country and provide a hub of activities and a variety of services.
People can access government services such as grants, personal documents and housing applications, as well as Adult Basic Education and Training and advice for small business development.
People are also able to access government information and office services such as phone, fax, scan, copy, print and postal services.
The Thusong Service Centre Programme brings government information and services closer to the people to promote access to opportunities as a basis for improved livelihoods.
There are 185 Thusong Service Centres established in 107 local municipalities country wide, and these are complemented by 114 integrated mobile routes taking government services to the far flung areas.
Public Service Month is an annual service delivery initiative. It is also part of the Batho Pele Revitalisation strategy which seeks to instil and rebuild good ethics, morale and pride in public servants. – SAnews.gov.za
