Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene has extended the appointment of Mark Kingon as acting Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

In a statement on Sunday, Nene announced the re-appointment of Kingon for a further 90 days, beginning on June 17.

“Section 7 of the SARS Act empowers the Minister of Finance to appoint an acting Commissioner. The President, however, appoints a permanent Commissioner,” said the Ministry of Finance.

Kingon was appointed in an acting capacity to the top post in March following the suspension of Tom Moyane.

Announcing his appointment in March, the Revenue Service said Kingon has been with SARS since its establishment and worked his way through the ranks to become the Group Executive: Relationship Management within Business and Individual Taxes. – SAnews.gov.za
