Minister Chabane's Official Memorial Service

Pretoria - An Official Memorial Service for the late Public Service and Administration Minister, Collins Chabane, gets underway today in Pretoria, where Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver a key note address.

The Department of Communications on Wednesday said the Official Memorial Service will start at 12pm at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria.

“Mourners attending the memorial service are requested to be seated 15 minutes before the start of proceedings,” the department said.

Amongst the speakers expected to pay tribute to the late Minister Chabane are representatives from the Congress of South African Trade Unions, South African Communist Party, African National Congress, Parliament, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, friends and family.

Ministers expected to attend the memorial service include Water and Environment Minister Edna Molewa, Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, Communication Minister Faith Muthambi and Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister Ayanda Dlodlo.

Minister Chabane and his two protectors, Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, died in a vehicle crash on the N1 in Polokwane on Sunday morning. Their car reportedly collided with a truck.

Meanwhile, the Memorial Service for the two Sergeants also gets underway this morning at 10am.

Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko, the National Commissioner, General Riah Phiyega, and the management and staff of the South African Police Service will hold an Official Memorial Service in remembrance of Sergeants Sekele and Lentsoane.

It will be held at SAPS Tshwane Academy, Rebecca Street, Pretoria-West.
